Stephen Frears directs this comedy-drama, based on the novel by Roddy (The Commitments, The Snapper) Doyle. When Bimbo Reeves (Donal O'Kelly) is laid off from his job at a bakery in Dublin, he begins hanging around with his unemployed friend Larry (Colm Meaney). Larry convinces Bimbo to use his severance money to buy a van, from which the pair intend to sell fish and chips to the crowds massing for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Even if they make a go of the fast food business, can their friendship stand the strain?
“They got soul in THE COMMITMENTS and a scandal in THE SNAPPER. Finally they're getting their act together and taking it on the road.”
